Dresden Express™ 16
Cut fabric in 7” strips.
Lay fabric strips on cutting mat. Place Dresden Express™
on fabric strip aligning the bottom horizontal line of ruler with the
bottom edge of the fabric.
In succession; cut along one outside edge of ruler, in center slots,
and opposite outside edge of the ruler. This will create three identical
Dresden blades. Layer fabric strips to cut multiple blades at one time.
To cut additional blades from same strip, simply lift ruler and realign
bottom edge of remaining fabric with bottom edge marking of ruler. (Figure
1)

Once all your blades have been cut, determine your desired length of
Dresden blade and select rounded or pointed top.
For Rounded Top:
Place ruler on blade, aligning narrow bottom edge of blade with ruler
drawing at the desired length. Using a rotary cutter, simply cut around
top curved edge of ruler. (Figure 2)

For Pointed Top:
Cut away the excess top (wider portion of blade) to meet your desired
blade length. Fold each blade widthwise, right sides together. Sew
across the top wide edge using 1/4” seam allowance. Trim inner
corner, turn right sides out and press with seam down the center. (Figure
3)

Stitch all blades together with a 1/4” seam allowance.
Appliqué to quilt block as desired.
To make the center of the plate, cut out a circle of fabric the desired
size and machine appliqué in place. Or - cut a circle of thin
cardboard the desired size and a circle of fabric 1/4” larger.
Hand baste a long running stitch just inside the outer edge of the fabric
circle. Place cardboard on center of wrong side of fabric and pull up
the thread to gather evenly around the cardboard. Press. Remove cardboard
and basting thread and appliqué in place as desired.
